#304 Travelling Envelope: Canada, Thailand & UK

My first travelling envelope has arrived home today! This is my first try with the Travelling Envelope Round Robin group in postcrossing forum.

There are three members in my group, the other two are photo313 from Thailand and anglez from UK. All of us used ‘stamp on a stamp’ stamps for the cover. I used three Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee stamps, cancelled on 25 April 2012 at Fenelon Falls in Ontario. Then photo313 affixed six stamps that commemorate Bangkok 1993 World Philatelic Exhibition, cancelled on 15 May 2012 (or the Buddha Year 2555) at Chulalongkorn. Finally anglez affixed two stamps that feauture King George V, cancelled on 21 May 2012 at Mount Pleasant.

Thank you very much photo313 and anglez, and thank you canbcpost for arranging the round robin!

#289 Postcard from Oxford, United Kingdom

During my trip to London and Paris with my family three weeks ago, we visited Oxford for two nights. I managed to send a postcard home from there.

This one shows three famous landmarks in Oxford: The Radcliffe Camera, The University Church of St Mary The Virgin and The Sheldonian Thatre. On the left and right borders are the coat of arms of colleges that make up the Oxford University.

We went to Oxford to visit our friend, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin who is currently a fellow at Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies. For two days, he showed us all the interesting places in Oxford.

#288 Postcard from United Kingdom

Another UK postcard that I sent home!

This one shows picture of London’s famous double-decker buses.

We used the underground tubes everyday in London such that both Maryam and Aiman grew bored of it. So we took the bus once, from Oxford Street to Piccadilly Circus.

#287 Postcard from United Kingdom

Another postcard from UK that I sent home during my trip there three weeks ago.

This one shows the underground map for London.

We used the underground everyday in London. It’s very convenient and cheap! At first, the underground service seems to be very complicated. After two or three times getting on the wrong tube on the first day, I managed to understand how the routes are organized.

#286 Postcard from United Kingdom

Another UK postcard sent home.

This one shows the famous War message, in front of Union Jack, the official flag of UK.

At the back, I wrote the name of hotels that we stayed during our trip. The message in the front of the card actually applies to me since we did not plan for the trip. We only purchased the flight tickets the day before the departure, and I had to make hotel bookings each night. It was really hard to find good hotels with cheap price since we had to do everything at the eleventh hour, and it is summer and London is preparing to host the Olympics. So I had to keep calm and look for the best deals every night for tomorrow’s stay!

#285 Postcard from United Kingdom

Yesterday I received several postcards that I sent to my home three weeks ago while on vacation in United Kingdom. This is the first one.

It shows the Royal Family at Buckingham Palace.

At the back I wrote our trip schedule. We were on a very tight schedule such that we did not have the chance to visit Bukingham Palace! Next time, perhaps…

#282 Postcard from United Kingdom

This is the second postcard that I sent home while on vacation in London, United Kingdom two weeks ago.

It shows the Tower Bridge, one of the most famous landmarks of London.

Again, no postmark applied. All five of us took the Big Bus Hop-on Hop-off Tour around London and we passed through the bridge on 15 May 2012. I remember that while we were crossing the bridge, suddenly there was a heavy freezing rain from the sky!
