A postcard from Kedah, Malaysia, sent by Khor Kok Keong.

The postcard shows the State Paddy Museum in Alor Setar, the state capital of Kedah.

At the back, Khor affixed one stamp that commemorates KD Tunku Abdul Rahman, a scorpene-class submarine of the Royal Malaysian Navy. The submarine is named after Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra, the first prime minister of Malaysia who hails from the royal Kedah family and born in Alor Setar. The postmark date is 17 July 2013 and the location is Alor Setar. Thanks a lot Khor!

A special cover from Kedah, Malaysia, sent by Khor Kok Keong.

It’s a long airmail cover with Zahir Mosque picture printed on it’s left side. On the cover, Khor affixed two definitive stamps featuring cocoa and three commemorative stamps from the 100th anniversary of Kedah Postal History. The cover was cancelled at Alor Star Mail Center, the state capital of Kedah. The postmark date is 27 June 2013. Thanks a lot Khor!

A postcard from Langkawi Island in the state of Kedah, Malaysia, sent by Khor Kok Keong.

The postcard shows the Telaga Harbour Park Lighthouse at Pantai Kok Bay.

At the back, Khor affixed one stamp from the lighthouse series, this one shows the lighthouse of Rimau Island in Penang. The postmark date is 12 May 2013 and the location is Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia. Thank you very much Khor!

#684 FDC from Malaysia

                   

Here is the second FDC of Postal History of Kedah that I sent to my address in Canada.

Again, this FDC is similar to Khor’s FDC (entry #683) except that my FDC was cancelled in Pulau Pinang, and I didn’t put the airmail sticker! For more information about this issue, please refer to the pamphlet in entry #681.

#683 FDC from Malaysia

                   

This is the second FDC of Postal History of Kedah from Khor Kok Keong.

Three old stamps are printed on the FDC that shows the latest three rulers of Kedah, and the current reigning ruler of Kedah, Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah was elected as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malayisa (or equaivalently the King of Malaysia, as Malaysia is a federal constitutional elective monarchy) for the second time in 2011. The other two stamps feature Sultan Abdul Hamid and Sultan Badlishah, the grandfather and father of Sultan Abdul Halim. On this cover, Khor affixed three stamps that feature the old stamps issued in Kedah. For more information about this issue, please refer to the pamphlet in entry #681. Khor’s FDC was cancelled in Ipoh, the state capital of Perak. Thank you Khor!

#682 FDC from Malaysia

                   

This is the first FDC of Postal History of Kedah that I sent to my own address in Canada.

The only different with Khor’s FDC (entry #681) is that my FDC is cancelled in Pulau Pinang, plus I didn’t affixed the air mail sticker! Please refer to entry #681 for more information about this issue.

#681 FDC from Malaysia

                   

On 20 December 2012, Pos Malaysia issued commemorative stamps and two FDCs to mark the 125th anniversary of Postal History of Kedah, a state in northwest Malaysia. I was in Malaysia for winter holidays, so I had the time to send the FDCs to my address in Canada. At the same time, Khor Kok Keong also sent the FDCs to me! So now I have four FDCs from this issue. Here is the first FDC from Khor Kok Keong.

This is the first version of the FDC, where the old General Post Office in Alor Setar, the state capital of Kedah. On this FDC Khor affixed one souvenir sheet that features an old postcard posted from Kedah to Penang. The postmark date on the postcard is 27 October 1887, and during that time Kedah was a province under the Kingdom of Thailand so that explains why the postcard and the stamp were of Siam. I think the stamp on the postcard shows a portrait of King Chulalongkorn, the 5th monarch from the Royal House of Chakri. Khor’s FDC was cancelled in Ipoh, Perak.

Another postcard from Langkawi Island in Kedah, Malaysia! This one is from Ian Choong.

Ian sent me a postcard showing the beautiful Payar Island, one of the hundreds on islands in Langkawi archipelago. Payar Island is surrounded by coral reef and it is a marine park.

At the back, Ian affixed one stamp showing the horned frog or leaf frog. The postmark date is 27 November 2012 but unfortunately location (Langkawi, Kedah) is not clear – perhaps due to the postcard paper. This is the same with my other postcards from Langkawi. Thanks a lot Ian for this postcard!

A second postcard from the beautiful island of Langkawi in Kedah, that I received. This one is from postcrosser Dani N. for North America meets the World RR in postcrossing forum.

Dani sent a nice postcard showing an eagle catching fish in Langkawi. The island of Langkawi is full with eagles. During my visit to Langkawi in summer 2009, I joined two cruises where we stopped for eagle feeding. The boatmen threw some meat into the sea and then we waited patiently in our boat for the eagles to come.

At the back, Dani affixed one definitive bird stamp and one commemorative spider stamp. The postmark date is 19 November 2012 and the location is Ipoh, Perak. Thank you Dani!

#577 Postcard from Langkawi, Malaysia

                   

I received two postcards from Langkawi Island in Kedah, Malaysia. This is the first one. This postcard was sent by SL Liew from Penang.

The postcard shows the Eagle Statue in Kuah Town, Langkawi. Langkawi is among my favorite holiday destination in Malaysia. I visited it for so many times that I forgot to count. Last time I visited the island in Summer 2009.

At the back, SL Liew affixed one Kids’ hobby stamp – stamp collecting. There are three special cancels: one for the kids’ hobby issue with postmark date 19 November 2012, another one for SetemKu issue with postmark date 5 November 2012, and the last one is from the postmen uniform issue with postmark date 22 October 2012. Pulau Pinang is the location for all postmarks. Thank you SL Liew!
